"The corridor’s challenge is not simply mobilising capital. It is originating, structuring and validating projects that meet institutional investment requirements."
Institutional investment processes screen opportunities against evidence, risk allocation and mandate requirements. This tool provides a preliminary view of where a project may need further work. Mark each gate against available evidence; clearing all six does not establish bankability, replace formal diligence or confer investment approval.
A long-term offtake with a creditworthy counterparty can support bankability, subject to the full contract and project economics. Merchant exposure and uncontracted tariff assumptions require separate risk analysis. Any Indonesian solar tariff range or claim about a state-fund backstop should be tied to a named tender, date, contract and published programme rules before being treated as evidence. A tariff alone does not prove project viability or the availability of private financing.
A contract is only as bankable as its signatory. Sovereign and quasi-sovereign offtakers clear the gate; sub-investment-grade or unrated counterparties require enhancement — guarantees, letters of credit, multilateral wraps — priced into the structure from the start, not discovered in diligence.
Check whether generation licences, land rights, environmental approvals and grid-connection rights are secured, enforceable and consistent with the project timetable. Requirements and approval risks vary by jurisdiction and asset. Material unresolved title or permitting conditions should be escalated before a project is represented as ready for institutional diligence.
Assess whether sponsor capital is genuinely committed, at risk and appropriately subordinated. Any equity percentage used in this screen should be treated as an illustrative internal assumption, not a universal market convention: requirements vary by project, jurisdiction, contract, leverage, lender and risk allocation. A high reliance on third-party funding warrants scrutiny but is not, by itself, a complete credit conclusion.
Vehicle domicile, enforceability logic, and whether the currency of cash flows matches the currency of funding in the documents — not a side letter. The gate is failed most often by omission: currency treated as a treasury afterthought rather than a structuring input.
For investors with a Sharia mandate, assess asset eligibility, the proposed structure, applicable standards and documented engagement with qualified Sharia advisers. Governance requirements depend on the transaction, investor mandate and relevant jurisdiction. This screen is not a Sharia opinion or certification; obtain transaction-specific review from qualified advisers.
